Historical Romance of the Regency Period

The Hartleighs of Somersham

Many historical romance fans love a bit of Regency romance. I suppose it's a reminder of Pride and Prejudice, the gorgeous Colin Firth as Mr Darcy emerging from his lake with his wet shirt sticking to his muscles. Well, that's my favourite version anyway.

Anyone ever seen the film, with Laurence Olivier and Geer Garson? That was a total washout. They ruined the whole tale by making Lady Catherine de Bourgh on their side! I mean, one of the highlights was her snobbish ranting!

Anyway, I have at the moment two Regency romances, a series of only two at the moment that will be finished one day.

Imagine you are the daughter of a Duke and you find yourself what they used to call 'in trouble'. Just how you got that way, well you'll have to read the book! But your cousin, who is your father's heir and who you've always thought of as a brother, comes to your rescue and marries you.

But things get very complicated from then on. The series is called The Hartleighs of Somersham and the first book is A Match of Honour. This book won the 2018 e-festival of words award for best historical romance.

The second in the series is Lady Penelope's Frenchman. This one is more of a novella and it concerns Lady Penelope, the sister of the heroine from the last tale, Susan. She has fallen in love with a French aristocrat who has lost everything fleeing from the revolution.

But Penelope cannot marry without the consent of her cousin, the current Duke, Christopher Hartleigh and he does not like this Frenchman one bit. There is but one thing to do - elope.
