The Adulteress

The Anarchy is the official name for the first of England's civil wars. It was a war between the Empress Matilda, daughter of King Henry I, and King Stephen, nephew of that same King.

The problem was, the basic problem was, that Matilda (also known as Maude) was a woman and as a woman, people did not believe she could rule.

So what happened when two people from the same family chose different sides?

Catherine, Lady Ravenscroft, is estranged from her husband, David.

David is a supporter of King Stephen and when soldiers, searching for the Empress Matilda, find a naked man in his wife's bed, he leaves her to fend for herself.

When he receives a letter from his wife, telling him she is dying and wants to see him, his conscience will not let him refuse.

What he learns when he gets there will shock him to the core.
